Shiatsu is an holistic form of healing bodywork from Japan. It is extremely relaxing to receive, relieving the body of physical and emotional tension.

The practitioner skillfully uses her bodyweight to apply gentle or deep pressure with her palms, fingers and thumbs along specific pathways (meridians). These are essentially the same meridians used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for acupuncture. This stimulates the natural healing powers of the body, whereby symptoms of disease lessen and vitality is regained. Limb stretches and joint rotations are also used to increase energy flow.

The shiatsu practitioner is trained to feel the body's condition and find imbalanced areas. Stimulating the meridians restores the balance and flow of energy. From a western perspective Shiatsu aids blood and lymph circulation calming nervous stress, improving healthy internal organ function and strengthening the immune system.
